  • Understand the purpose of PFT’s in diagnosing and treating pediatric asthma
  • Know the process of performing a valid test
  • Know how to interpret PFT’s
  • Understand the difference between personal best and population based Peak Flows
  • Know how to set  Peak Flow zones using personal best
  • Learn how Peak Flows can be falsely elevated or lowered

 Dr Caffey, Assistant Professor, Department of Pediatrics, has been with the UNM Division of Pediatric Pulmonary since 2003.  She received her MD from the University of New Mexico, followed by Pediatric Residency and Pediatric Pulmonary Fellowship at the University of New Mexico.  Dr Caffey is the Medical Director for the Envision NM APT clinic and Co-Director of the UNM PPC training grant.  She has participated in research in both asthma and cystic fibrosis.

Abby Redway is a Registered Respiratory Therapist and Neonatal/Pediatric Specialist.  Her work experience has been concentrated in the area of pediatric respiratory care while working as an inpatient respiratory therapist for 8 years at UNMH.  Following additional training she became the Pediatric Cystic Fibrosis Respiratory Therapy Specialist for the accredited Pediatric Cystic Fibrosis program at UNM and began working as the outpatient Tracheostomy and Ventilator dependent respiratory therapist.   She has held these roles since 2008.
